The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s official rejoining of the party as a “welcome development.” The PDP praised Mr. Abubakar’s defection in a press release signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, and published on Sunday. The former vice president had left the PDP to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), but announced on Sunday that he was returning to the PDP. The opposition party said that it believes Mr. Abubakar’s return will help rebuild the party ahead of the 2019 general elections. A researcher, Prof. Madubuike Ezeibe, has called on the Federal Government to carry out a clinical trial of the drug he invented, Aluminum-Magnesium Silicate (AMS), which is capable of curing HIV/AIDS. Ezeibe, a professor of Veterinary Medicine, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Umuahia on Monday. According to the don, he presented a paper on the potential of the drug as both antiviral and raw material, at a world conference on Ethnopharmacology in Chicago, United States, on May 2, 2016.
